When a CO was preaching about quitting your job if it involved shiftwork, I did ask him if he would be there to help out financially when all the jobs that my husband could find on days were low paying and we couldn't make it on that. He didn't take kindly to it however. I had to bite my tongue about how he was living in a different word than most of us. He was being totally supported by us hard working publishers.

Did You Ever "Tell Off" An Elder or Circuit Overseer?
by minimus ini know of very few that would "dare" tell off a co but elders were different.
having been an elder for many years, it was very easy to go back and forth with a fellow elder and basically tell him he was dumb.

If the world's population were reduced to 100, it would look something like
by What-A-Coincidence inhttp://www.miniature-earth.com/.
the idea of reducing the world?s population to a community of only 100 people is very useful and important.
it makes us easily understand the differences in the world.. there are many types of reports that use the earth?s population reduced to 100 people, especially in the internet.

Really does make you stop and ponder the state of this world. Not a very pretty picture either. It's a shame that we can't do better. Also should really appreciate what we do have. Thanks for the poat. Much more thought provoking then any daily text.

Has anyone seen this? JW mental health

Why does he change the measuring stick for JWs -others are % per 1000 population. Then he just states the number of JW admissions. Makes it difficult to see correct correlation and not very scientific. Don't get me wrong, I think the high control of this authoritarian group is very damaging to one's mental health if you tend to be a critical thinker. On the other hand, if you want to be spoon fed and give over all your decisions and responsibility for the way you live your life, this may not bother or affect your mental health. Unless of coarse, somehow you are forced to think for yourself. Then critical thinking sneeks in and yes, you will have some mental anquish if you cannot get back into the protective box quickly enough.

I listened to the meetings by phone for 2 years. It was kind of funny because I would have to hook up with another person through 3 way calling and this brother would always go to sleep. It wouldn't be very long and the snoring would drive you crazy. I learned to do what I wanted as long as I hung the phone up as soon as the meeting was over. I had a mute button on my phone, so no one could hear me.

Shunning is mental/emotional abuse. How many people would shun their own family by choice when they made a mistake? There is no love involved. Just fear and mind control. What did Jesus do when he cured people and told them their sins were forgiven? He said to go and sin no more. No shunning was ever required. Even the Samaritan woman who admitted to having 5 husbands and the man who was not her husband now. She was not even spoken to harshly. Instead, Jesus admitted to her that he was the Messiah, something he rarely said to anyone.Shunning is about contol and power. If the information on this board was regularly read by anyone with a heart and a conscince, how long would the society maintain their control over them? The only way to keep people in subjection is through ignorance. Knowledge is power.
Shunning is EVIL!!!!!!!

9-1-06 WT Example of False Arguments
by Amazing inwatchtower publications exhibit a level of ignorance and in adequate education by its writers that is astounding, especially when it comes to logic and false arguments.
i recently received a copy of the 9-1-06 watchtower and discovered that it is a great example of how false arguments are used to manipulate the readers - primarily jehovah's witnesses.. passive voice: one of the prime ways that a false argument is made is through the passive voice.
example: "it is said that ...," or "there are those who say that ...," or "people wonder about ...," or "further, it was felt that .... ".

(Amazing) I once placed the first evolution book with a young man working on his masters at a university nearby. When I returned, he said the references were so poor that he could take nothing in the book as reliable. That comment always stayed with me because I had always just trusted their references and never actually looked them up. I think that is why they drill into people's minds that they are specially chosen by God. Once that is believed, implicit trust follows.

Once you realize the tactics that the society uses to mislead people, it is very hard to read their literature without getting disgusted. The strange part is I read this same literature for many years without realizing much of their outright dishonesty. The last few meetings I attended, I just read the Bible. I could see that this actually disturbed some of those near me.
As far as titles go, these always bothered me terribly. I saw the power play they presented. Also the turning in of time. If they wanted to keep track of time spent in service and placements, then we could have turned this in anonymously, like they claim they do for money. This was a control tactic.
Good analysis of the article-thanks.

Illnesses in The Congregations
by Country Girl indid any of you ever notice that what seemed a larger percentage of people in the congregation seem to have serious illnesses than the same slice of people in the world with the same demographics?
it seems that our congregation had a large percentage of people with mental illnesses, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, etc.
these diseases (although some md's classify them as psychosomatic) have been known to be aggravated or even induced by stress.

CFS and FMS are not diseases exclusively of JWs. But they have been linked to people with what they call -A Personality Type. This type of person tends to be more of a perfectionist and a people pleaser. Now when you add the impossible demands of yhe JWs and the cognitive dissonance required to make sense of their teachings you can see why they would be very prevalent amongst them. As for disappearing after leaving, I'm not so sure. Stress is a great aggravator of most diseases, so it depends on how much strss a person is under. Leaving and shunning has its own stresses. If you can remove yourself from these stresses, then there is a chance for improvment. But until they discover the cause of these diseases, it does the persons suffering no good to call them psychological. They used to claim that Rheumatoid Arthritis was psychosomatic untill they came out with the proper knowledge of this disease.
One thing is for sure. These are primarily diseases of women and as such get little respect. I hope your right and distance from the borg will help, but I have yet to experience it.

Arthur-I did see the village-3 times. I thought too that it resmbled the witnesses exactly. Funny, I watched it with all JWs and nobody else even saw the connection. I did tell my husband it was just like the wiitnesses, but of coarse he couldn't see it. And I say to my husband to shut the f**k up all the time on the inside, but never aloud.

I recognize that the taunting is emotional abuse. He feels he has the upper hand because my grown children are still good dubbies. I ordered Combating Cult Mind Control from the local book store, but it is not in yet. My husband has a tendency to be controlling and emotionally abusive. But he doesn't run to the elders and tell on me. I feel like I am suffering both physically and emotionally. But we have been together for over 30 years and I am in very poor health. All of this makes me just feel powerless.
